Music City, USA and home to some of the best food in the country, Nashville is one of the most popular cities in the United States. With a number of famous music venues, art installations, parties, restaurants, and residents, the area is a hotbed of activity and entertainment. It’s no wonder that so many are visiting for vacation or deciding to stay — but with so much to do, how do you fit everything into your schedule or prioritize? This Nashville City Guide is here to organize all of the best food spots in the city (sorted by what food you’re looking for), as well as our favorite attractions and activities!

First, we need to fill up on food. Nashville is best known for its hot chicken, but there’s certainly no shortage of other southern and comfort food. Every corner of the city has delicious dishes and smells, so here are some of our top picks:

Top Things to Do in Nashville

Once you’ve had your fill of hot chicken, BBQ, or biscuits, it’s time to explore! There’s something for everyone in this city, from arts and shopping to a replica of the Parthenon, whether you want to spend the day indoors or outdoors. Let’s check out the sights that should be at the top of your Nashville bucket list:

Pontoon Saloon

If you’re looking for a Nashville party, there’s perhaps no better place than the Pontoon Saloon. As you may have guessed from its name, this honky tonk sails down the Cumberland River so you can enjoy music, drinks, food, and beautiful views of the downtown skyline. Spending a couple of hours out on the water in the Music City is a great way to start or end your day, but be sure to book your cruise ahead of time!

Enjoy the Murals

Nashville has become a hub of local art, including some of the most iconic murals in the country. You’ve probably seen the #WhatLiftsYou wings mural on Instagram, but there are over 100 more to check out throughout downtown. These are a great excuse to just walk through the streets of this vibrant city and enjoy the atmosphere. However, if you’re looking to see specific pieces, our favorites include The Kind Mural (Germantown), I Believe in Nashville (Marathon Village, among others), Art of Harmony (Germantown), Walls for Women (Jefferson), and the Hillsboro Village Dragon (Hillsboro Village, on the other side of our restaurant’s building).

Marathon Village

If you’re looking for a shopping binge, you’ll love Marathon Village. Inhabiting an old car factory that was built in the 1800s, this community of shops, offices, and much more is one of the most unique places you’ll step foot in. Covering everything you could need in a day, there’s food, entertainment, retail stores, and historic exhibits to get lost exploring.

Visit a Local Distillery

Unsurprisingly on this list, Nashville has a wide array of local distilleries for you to visit and take tours of — it is called Tennessee Whiskey, after all. The most famous is of course Jack Daniel’s, which has a distillery about an hour and a half south of Nashville in Lynchburg, which has tours that take you to and from the city. Closer options include Corsair Distillery (in Marathon Village), Nashville Craft Distillery, and Pennington Distilling Co., so take your pick!

Broadway & Honky Tonk Row

One of the most iconic areas of Nashville, Broadway is a bustling area in downtown known for its entertainment and tourist attractions. Taking a stroll down the strip and enjoying the live music coming from Honky Tonk Row (a part of Broadway) is a must for anyone visiting the city, especially if you’re looking to go out for the night. If you’re a hockey fan, Bridgestone Arena, home of the Preds, is also along Broadway and hosts tons of concerts and events throughout the year.

Centennial Park

This 132-acre spot in midtown sits just across the street from Vanderbilt University and boasts some incredibly unique and beautiful features. The first that comes to mind is the centerpiece of the park, the full-scale replica of Athens’ Parthenon temple. Complete with a replica statue of Athena that stands 42 feet tall, this recreation was built in 1897 and houses Nashville’s art museum. Other parts of Centennial Park have walking trails, a sunken garden, Lake Watauga, and countless music events.
