Best Things to Do & Places to Eat in College Station, Texas

Named for the first state institution of higher education in Texas and the railroad station beside it, College Station is a thriving city in east-central Texas and home to the Aggies. Because of the diverse population of both students as well as long-term residents, there’s always a variety of food to try and activities to take part in. But it’s hard to have a lot of energy to go and explore on an empty stomach, so let’s start with the food.

Best Food in College Station

Like most other cities in Texas, College Station is a melting pot of cultures, traditions, and foods. You can find everything from Nutella-covered waffles to award-winning fine dining with cuisines from across the globe, and that’s only scratching the surface. No matter what you’re craving, or if you’re gluten-free, vegetarian, or have other dietary restrictions, there’s always spectacular food to find in College Station.

What to do in College Station

Now that you’re full of food, it’s time to do some exploring, learning, or cheering, depending on what piques your interests. While some might think that Texas A&M is the only place to visit when in College Station, there are plenty of hidden (and not-so-hidden) gems to take advantage of and appreciate the city off-campus, as well.

Experience a Texas A&M football game at Kyle Field

Yes, you probably saw this coming, but game days at Texas A&M are truly like no other. There are chants at midnight, Spirit Walks, singing, and many more traditions that can’t be replicated or experienced anywhere else. In fact, Kyle Field is such a huge part of the school and town that its 103,000-person capacity can almost fit the entire population of College Station (110,000).

Bonfire Memorial

However, football isn’t all just about being loud and watching the game, it can also be a time to reflect and remember. The Bonfire Memorial pays tribute to the 12 Aggies who were tragically killed and 27 more who were injured when the structure for the bonfire tradition collapsed in 1999. The memorial is on the polo fields of the university and consists of a ring of 27 granite blocks connecting 12 doorways that each point to the hometown of a student who lost their life.

George H.W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum

Also on Texas A&M’s campus is the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, which is the burial site of George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara. It has over 40 million pages of official records and personal papers documenting the 41st President’s life. Walking through the halls of the museum you can find exhibits about presidential life, his travels overseas to China, his family, and much more. It’s a great place to look back at not only the history of George H.W. Bush’s presidency and life, but also that of our country.

Messina Hof Winery & Resort

If you’re just looking to relax and enjoy the Texas countryside, you’re going to love Messina Hof Estate Winery. Their location in Bryan was where the Texas winery started and has some incredible events and hospitality. You can go to the Tasting Room, take tours of the winery, stay in a villa bed and breakfast, eat in the Vintage House Restaurant, and attend or host private events.

Nightlife at Northgate

An essential part of a college town, Northgate is a neighborhood adjacent to Texas A&M’s campus and is full of amazing bars, clubs, and restaurants. In fact, several of the locations we mentioned as top places to eat in College Station are in Northgate. Whether you’re looking to let loose after a long day of studying or celebrating an Aggie win, this should be at the top of your list to stop by.

Century Square

For those looking for the best shopping locations in College Station, there’s no better place than Century Square. A 60-acre district of retail, entertainment, and dining boutiques and shops, Century Square creates a unique urban landscape that caters to a variety of interests and tastes. Additionally, if you’re looking to stay more than an afternoon, it has two hotels and weekly events for you to check out in between shopping for clothes, watching a movie, or getting a workout in. The shopping center is also home to our College Station restaurant, making it convenient for a burger, drink, and fries to keep you fueled for shopping or heading to and from campus.
